Alfie Mc Connell from Tullaghanstown (Navan side of bog cross going to Athboy )died yesterday after a struggle with cancer only diagnosed months rather than years ago.
He was only 55 years young and lived life according to the best medical advices only drinking now and then and rarely and hardly ever smoking.
He is survived by his parents,his wife and two children.
He will arrive in Dunderry Church at 7.00 p.m.this evening and his burial is tomorrow Saturday after Mass at 11.00 a.m. in Dunderry graveyard.
Reports are just filtering through that Lorna Carty ,wife of Declan from Robinstown, was shot in Tunisia this morning .
Unbelievable though it sounds it seems to be true and the whole place is in a state of shock and bewilderment that one so young and decent could meet her end in such a bizarre fashion.
We hugely sympathise with her husband and family.

Today the Club hosted Baltinglas GAA juveniles ,under 8 and 10 I think,in football challenges prior to the Wicklow /Meath game today in Navan.
I'd say this was the first time that Baltinglass were here.They are a grand bunch of people.
One veteran Baltinglass and Wicklow player present I spoke to said that Wicklow had a great chance seeing as Meath were short six players.
One veteran Dunderry man I spoke to afterwards said "IF Meath lose to day ,then in the words of Johnny Gannon , we are b.......xed".
Meath got hard to win.And Wicklow finished with 13.
There are two Wicklow men involved with Gaelic Games in the Parish.Con O Neill is now coaching the underage footballers and Tom Byrne is Chairman of the Camogie Club.
Niall Rennic ,who played with Dunderry is a former Manager of Wicklow and Sean Kelly is a current Meath selector.
A grandson of mine Padraic,son of Evan and Aoife played his first competitive football match against Baltinglass today.Cormack Mac Donagh ,another grandson has played underage hurling also.
And Mickey ,husband of Aoife's mother, attended his first ever GAA match today to see Pauric playing.
I thought that no sixty year old could exist in Meath without attending a GAA match at some stage, but there you go.
And possibly the greatest full back of recent times Darren Fay was in the field.
He is half way through his studies to be a teacher.
I imagine there will be a huge queue to sign him on when he qualifies. And he is one nice guy to boot.
And Ted Dowd was also in the field and his sons were playing too.
All in a day's sport.

Disrespect frourishes around Dunderry.
Lovely day Thursday.Sun splitting the stones.First real day of summer.So down with me to the graveyard to spice up the Mc Cormack's grave for the forthcoming blessing.On my tricycle.
Two cars there.Two women.The older woman was sweeping up the shattered glass of the windscreen of her car and in a state of shock.
She had been in the graveyard tidying up her mother's grave ,concentrating on the job in hand and enjoying the weather ,oblivious to the wider world.
The other lady,a cousin of mine ,had been passing the graveyard at 4.00 p.m.when she noticed a silver Volvo stopped there with three young males around the other car.She copped one of them smashing the window and lifting the handbag from the front seat.
She screeched to a halt ,very courageously as she had a young child with her,and put her hand on the horn.
The three bowsies hopped into the Volvo and headed towards Trim.
This is a first for Dunderry.
Clean sweep of all the houses in the main street,the Church,the Hall,the GAA Club,and much,much more.
Now they prey on the bereaved.
Yep post Christian Multicultural Ireland has reached Dunderry.

History made in Dunderry tonight.
This evening we played a Monaghan team called Inniskeen in our pitch in a hurling challenge at adult level.
Garrett Dooley has a relation on that team.This is the first hurping team from Monaghan to field in Dunderry.

Underpants only for lads with dirty arses.
I find it difficult to use swear words in my blog because of the possibility that small kids might read it.But having last evening on RTE Radio heard the word "Cunt" liberally used ,I am as usual out of kilter.Now don't get me wrong I can use expletives with the best of them but only in context.Like for example when trying to motivate a lad's football team.,as anyone who has had any serious involvement or even basic knowledge will know.
And it is in this context that I first and for the only time heard the words used in the heading supra.
Jigser Powell,since deceased,was a team mate of mine in Saint Brigid's Club,Blanchardstown for many years.He was a hardy guy and a typical corner back of his era,as tough as old leather.
Over many decades we all togged out together.Jigser never wore underpants and eventually some grave soul plucked up the courage to ask him why."They're only for fellas with dirty arses" said he.
Now the kapos who run our country at the direction and for the benefit of the EU and Atlantic Philanthropies are fulfilling every thief's and criminal's wet dream by publishing the names and particulars of every farmer's entitlements to payment from the Common Agricultural Policy single payment scheme, which will save them considerable research and help them focus on the more isolated and lucrative turkeys to be plucked and reveal particulars of their most intimate financial affairs for all the world to see.
Conversely Dennis O Brien,a billionaire and media mogul,none of whose otherwise mouthy journalists have offered even one word of criticism against his actions,has gagged the other electronic and paper media from reportindg a single word said by an elected member of our Dali in relation to his financial dealings.
The Kapos who are supposed to run our country are too busy arse licking the EU and Atlantic Phil .to be even arsed doing anything about this information deficit and threat to democracy,which demonstrates,at least to me, that one law applies to billionaires and another to the rest of us.
Truly it entitles me to restate Jigser's adage as
"Confidentiality is only for lads with well wadded arses".
