Stiofan O Mealoid Tournament Cup 26/12/2016.Clanna Gael 2-13.Dundoire 1-2.

This tournament Cup  has been played for since Stiophan was killed in an accident ,originally between Dunderry and An Gaeltacht ,but latterly between Dunderry and Clanna Gael ,at under 21 level to reflect the tender age of Stiofan at his death.
We had an under 21 team this year who were beaten in the under 21 B semi final by Oldcastle. To our shame the bulk of the team had not got the decency to field and honour the memory of the late Stiofan.I  don't understand why this was allowed to happen.
The following people did field for Dunderry.
Sean O Tuama,T.Doherty,C,Coffey,T,Conroy,Stiofan Clarke,C,Mc Kenna,,S.Carty,E.Daly,J.Brady,Mickey Dowdall ,J.P.Kenneally.
Conroy and Dowdall scored a point apiece and Clarke a goal.
Of the twelve players who did turn up J.P.,was home from Canada for the Christmas, and three others will never see 21 again except on a front door.
We had to borrow players from Clanna Gael and were hammered as the scoreline shows.
This is an embarrassment for the Club and for me as a life member.President and past executive member for many years.
Taken in conjunction with the failure to field either a minor hurling or football team this year for the first time in decades it calls into question the effectiveness of our structures and the failure of same to bring through players from our juvenile set up.
I have long been of the view that all teams should be under the Senior Club management and that delegating teams up to 18 years of age to a sub committee is not the answer.
Personally I apologize to the Mellet Family on my behalf in any event.

Needs must.

They were twin boys born in the 1940's in rural Ireland ,the only children of hard working parents who were slaves to the 25 acre farm they had.Life was a constant struggle.
The parents eventually passed to meet their Maker, were shooed through the door of Heaven and after a suitable period of mourning Tommy and Joey had a confab.
There was full agreement that whatever about one of  of them making a living from  the farming it was a cast iron certainty that they both would not.So they tossed a coin.Joey would stay and farm and Tom would take the boat.
And so it came to pass.
They wrote once a year to each other and in the way of Irish hetero men kept their feelings to themselves.
After 40 years ,neither had married and Tom came home for a holiday, his first.
Joe spent a month tidying up the place and took in the one set of cutlery he continuously used and washed after each meal from the outside window cill and put it beside the other unused cutlery, that were part of his parents wedding trove ,in the dresser that was built over two centuries ago ,when the house was constructed.
And the day finally came when Tom hit home.
Now Tom had spent his working life as a ventriloquist in a travelling circus.Joe didn't know this.
After a filling meal of jacket spuds and sirloin moistened with unadulterated gravy juices followed by jelly and custard ,all prepared on the open turf fire, they were well content.
"I'd love to see the land "said Tom."No bother "said Joe and off they went.
In the first field there were gambolling lambs .One looked Tom  in the eye and said"Welcome home Tom after all these years away."Joe was gobsmacked.
And so it went with horses ,cattle and goats.
When it came to the last field Tom looked around and no sign of Joe.Maybe I  carried the joke too far he thought and hastened back to the house..
From the pigsty he heard a fierce squealing of the sow so he peered through the cracks in the wall of the sty.
There was Joe kicking the shite out of the sow saying "If you tell that fella that we are courting I will  flay ya alive".
In Dunddry the craic never ends.

Ginger Nuts.

Last September,in pursuit of information that could lead to the securing of an All Ireland Ticket I  had reason to call to the house of friends in Coolmine Cottages ,Mulhuddart,Co.Dublin.in the early morning.
The door was opened by a sixteen year old young lady with a head of flowing red hair and a welcoming smile, who invited me in and looked after me as well as anyone could, cooking me a full breakfast and shooting the breeze with me for  upwards of two hours until her parents returned to the house from the shops.
50 years divided us age wise  but nothing empathy wise.
Now I hasten to add that I know the family well and that this young wan excels not only in the hospitality stakes but for many years represented the Dubs on the Camogie fields of Ireland.
She is a lovely young lady and a credit to the ginger nuts of Ireland.
I promised to mention her in my Blog so better late than never.

Death of Mary O Brien,Longwood.

It's hard to believe but its twenty years since Nora Henry graced us with her presence and moved into Father Flood Park.
Well Mary O Brien was Nora's mother.
Born Mary Barry in Garbally ,Co.Tipperary over 95 years ago this lady emigrated to England during the savagery of the Second World War to work as a cook, survived it and married a Mayo man named Paddy O Brien of Aughagowan ,Westport in 1947 and returned to that Parish with her husband on the death of her father in law IN 1948 to run the family farm.
I have seen the wedding photograph of the couple and take my word for it they were a handsome couple,Mary having the looks of a film star .
Well it was there that their children Nora,Anne,Mary.Julia,John and Oliver were born and largely reared.
Any one with ever the most rudimentary knowledge of farming now or then will know that rearing a family on average acreage needed long and arduous labour and that farm was no exception to the rule.
Mother ,father and all children put the shoulders to the wheel and were largely self sufficient as was the norm in that era.
In 1966 the family moved to Tobertynan ,Longwood and Mary and family continued to farm as heretofore and she remained active right up to a few years before her death, when she moved into the home of her son Oliver who lived nearby ,as age caught up with her.
Her husband predeceased her by 16 years.
During her last years she was cared for at home by her extended and loving family ,children, grandchildren and even had the comforting presence  of her great grandchildren .
They were greatly assisted,I am told by a number of carers who helped attend to her many needs and our Nora was not remiss in this regard.
Nora herself has family in Jamiestown and I know some of them casually. They are of high  calibre as you would expect.
She died on 6th December 2016 ,her Funeral Mass took place in St.Michael's Church ,Rathmoylan and she is buried in Kill Cemetery .

Appollo House and all that.

Many moons ago I worked  for a good while in Apollo House. It is in Tara Street and beside the famous Mulligan's pub.As far as I can recall the ground floor was occupied by the Dept.of Social Welfare and the bulk of the rest was occupied by Revenue.
I was never a big drinker because I couldn't afford to be but I nevertheless did savour the occasional first class pint in Mulligans.
Now I am  sure that the general populace couldn't give a curse either way about the presence of Revenue there as being realistic Revenue are regarded as a necessary evil and even I have mixed feelings about my time there.
Let me say first of all that in general most but not all of my workmates were the most decent of people and in no way nasty.
There were of course exceptions to the rule and while I will not name names some deplorable actions were carried out there which are etched in my fading mind.
It was there that two senior officials mounted a campaign of remorseless bullying against a most decent guy and a worker par excellence, just because they had the rank to get away with it.
They made this guy's life so miserable that he had a complete meltdown and it is because of God's mercy and maybe because of my intervention that he survived it.If ever there was an example of systemic bullying and hateful activity this was it.
One of the bullies  is passed from this world and would have had to meet his Maker.I hope he paid the price.
Funnily enough the same very senior ,and to those who knew him casually .extremely affable person used bad mouth me behind my back at every opportunity to those who could influence my advancement .I knew this because one of those to whom he spewed his poisonous lies used inform me immediately after every outburst, but was not prepared to make an issue of it.
There wasn't much I  could do about it except offer it up and shrug it off.
Another matter that springs to mind is the concerted efforts of a tight band of senior personnel to see down another of their own because they were jealous of his apparent good fortune. This operation was so undercover that only those directly involved knew about it and its existence was only rumoured but I suspect that it was organized to inflict maximum damage which it surely did.
Finally I received a visit while there from a former staff member who I had not seen for decades and to whom I had been unfailingly decent to in my dealings with a long time ago.
I kinda knew she had a drink problem then but had covered for her from time to time.
She explained to me that she was receiving counselling for alcoholism at the time of the visit and was, under advisement of her counsellors ,now visiting those she had b done damage to during her addiction  .
She was visiting me after all this time because for a reason she was not prepared to tell me ,she had spread lies about me to my superiors and had done all in her power to discredit me.
These are not pleasant memories and I would suggest that the organizers of the sit in get Father McVerry to exorcise the entire building lest these awful events leave permanent scars on the present occupants .
And just as laxy medics blame all illness on smoking I don't for one minute believe that there are health and safety issues of any significance that would impinge on sleeping overnight in the building.
Certainly they would pale inti insignificance to sleeping rough in this weather on the streets.

Nidge for Taoiseach.

Our Nidge is some bitch. This week she had quintuplets.I held her paw for the twelve hours she was popping them out.Five pups in that time.
As each was delivered she licked them clean and guided them towards her voluminous tits, where they filled their little bellies.
All except one little mite who suffered a fatal  abnormality as it is terned by the Herodites who push the abortion industry.
Now this little mite was not right, she couldn't stand ,she couldn't suck nor could she move at all.Her mouth didn't close.and she gasped for breath.
I fed her warmed milk with the assistance of a dropper to keep her going in the hope that she might improve.
Nidge however devoted as much time to her as she did to the other four. She licked her all over  several times a day, cradled her between her front paws and did all she could to keep her going.Right up to the time she died and even for a time afterward.
I am moved ,not for the first time ,by the compassionate and loving nature of animals and it set me thinking about our heartless political and h journalistic classes in the areas of abortion and the crass and inhumane treatment of our ill ,elderly and disabled.
Last week we had the disgrace of a seriously ill woman of over 103 years of sage languishing on a trolley in a modern hospital for 15 hours or thereabouts.
It has emerged that more people took their lives since Fine Gael took power than were killed in the civil war in the North ,which the establishment Parties in this STATE pretended was not taking place at all and for the duration of which did little other than to persecuted those Irish Nationalists who physically risked all to protect their own Communities.
This week ,as every week .we have politicos ,academics and medics of all hues straining at the leashes TO KILL and actively killing the unborn whose humanity they deny .
It's an awful pity that these physical and morally vacuous cowards didn't take up arms to protect our fellow Nationalists when they were being persecuted and murdered by the death squads in the British armed forces and by the Loyalist death squads in the North.
But no surprise there .Takes no courage to murder  the unprotected and defence less unborn.Facing a vengeful squaddie armed to the teeth is a different proposition.
Also this week not for the first time , another branch of Lucifer's Kingdom ,the United Nation, has made our Government pay compensation to a woman who had to go abroad to have the life of her unborn . child terminated. These guys and gals should be parachuted into the likes of Appello for example and maybe face the ISIS  people and sort them out.Much easier and more cowardly of course to encourage the killing of the defenceless unborn.
And of course you had a BLUESHIRT member of Parliament ,the Hogg ..Farrell........,place the lives of two people at risk by associating them with the murder of a former prison officer called Stack.I think that this guy is A SOLICITOR.I would venture to suggest that he had better ensure his perpetual election to Parliament as potential clients would surely question the judgment of  a man who places another human being, entirely innocent of the crime to which he has been linked by Farrell , in the firing line and might have severe doubts about the preservation of confidential information.
IF THIS LITTLE SHIT WANTS TO BE OF SERVICE HIMSELF AND HIS ILK COULD SURELY VOLUNTEER TO ASSIST THE GARDAI IN TACKLING HEAD ON THOSE INVOLVED IN THE NEARLY GUARANTEED Weekly MURDER OF THE CITIZENS OF THE CAPITAL CITY .
As one who has considerable experience of our Health system I have no hesitation in comparing those who oversee it as being similar to the Nazis who operated the selection procedures at AUTZWITCH  insofar as the over 65 s are concerned..
Simply stated if you are over 65 its off to the ovens with you .Too old to save and not worth bothering with.I.ve seen it time and time again.
That this is so is no surprise as this Government places no value whatsoever on sick  human life ,both at the start and the finish.Allowing the killing of the defenceless unborn at the start of life and allowing the lingering indignity of sick centenarians  and other elderly on trolleys is just part of the callous disregard in which life is held here.
That the Milky Bar Kid should elect to reward those who kill the unborn with taxpayer's money whilst uttering banalities when  the old lady was treated to the indignity is just what we have come to expect.
I will refrain for the present from commenting on the imposition of appalling austerity on the populace, the policy of homelessness caused by blind indifference and stupidity and the various other examples of indifference that abound in society.
The point is that all these are caused by the lack of respect for life that those in power possess in abundance.
Any how ,when Nidge becomes Taoiseach the following aspects of her behaviour will become mandatory for her human underlings.
1.If any born person is sick and left waiting in a hospital setting for over three hours the staff responsible will have to lick them better from anus to crown and this will have to be repeated hourly until they are cured. This process will have to be repeated by their superiors right up to and including the Minister.
2.If any unborn person is thought to have a life limiting condition the appointed medics will have to follow the example of Nidge after birth.Failure to do so will result in the operation of the principle of "an eye for an eye"if death results as a result of the deliberate killing of the child. This would apply to medics only as mothers are groomed by the abortion industry and would have no application if the life of the mother was a genuine physical risk.
3,If any person goes homeless or hungry as a result of Governmental failure then the responsible person or persons will be chained  up outside with bull mastiffs of similar stages of neglect and left fight it out.
I am fairly sure that implementation of these three simple policies would immediately lead to the elimination of the problems addressed.

Death of Mary Mc Donagh Lambay ,Kilbride,Trim ,Meath.

At 4.00 a.m. this morning Mary passed away in her sleep in Saint Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Athboy ,where she had been resident for some time and where she had received the best of attention during her stay. She was of advanced age and was predeceased by her husband Tommo in 2010 and her daughter Kathleen Clarke in 2007 ,both to the plague of cancer and both events  to my certain knowledge broke her heart twice. over .
She was the eldest of ten siblings from Mayo and a nurse by profession and a good one at that .Her maiden name and married name were as one.
A woman of fastidious grooming she was an exemplary wife and mother to Kathleen and her surviving children Anne Sloan,London,Helena Corrigan,Trim,Mairead Donoghue, ditto, and son Terry Lambay ,who is married to my daughter Jacinta and a loving and caring grandmother to all of her grandchildren .
When she was well she was full of fun and in her younger days worked as hard as any woman ever did to rear her family and help out on the farm, often double jobbing by nursing elderly and sick patients while simultaneously seeing to her other duties.
No matter how hard she worked she was fastidious about her grooming and always looked her best.
When Fashion Shows were run as fund raisers not only did she help organize them but was a willing and competent model and clothes horse.
She was a strict Mass goer and a Minister of the Eucharist in Kilbride for many years.
She was good company and a great conversationalist and a quick thinker. If risen she could cut you to the quick and was well able to stand up for herself.
She lived on her own for a few years after Tommo's death and was extremely well minded as long as she could cope and indeed much longer by her loving and caring children and their families.
During this period in her life her residence was viciously violated and desecrated by a vile criminal or criminals and this caused her great upset as it did all belonged to her and even though I am no blood relation I share in this revulsion.
When in full health Mary was well able to stand up for herself and it is a mark of the esteem in which she was held by her children that she was visited multiple times daily by her  children when Nursing Home care was unavoidable.
Terry was an exemplary son in this regard as were all her surviving daughters.
She will Be waked at her residence in Lambay from 3.00 to 8.00 p.m next Monday and will be arriving to Kilbride Church next Tuesday 13th December  for the Funeral Mass at 11.00 a.m after which she will be buried in the adjoining Cemetery.
Ar Dheis De go raibh a hANAM dILIS.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE I  KNEW HER FAIRLY WELL.SHE WAS A RARE ONE.
P.S.She was a stunnung corpse. Her daughters have obviously inherited her grooming genes and she had a well attended and respectful funeral and wake.
As she was being lowered into her grave I swear I heard the chug chug of the Baidin Ban........the ship in which she and Tommo met all those years ago and also I heard a celesttial groan  from Tommo bemoaning the end of his Heavenly holiday AS Mary's soul rose to Heaven to assist Kathleen in putting manners on him for eternity.
Sure they wouldn' have it any other way.

Mendin' the Nets.

At the height of the boom in 2008,when Bank staff were on bonuses to hand out a million cash to anyone with over 100,000.00 in the Account no questions asked and were in a bidding war to strike the lowest interest rate,I was driving my banger of a car to a nearby town, when who did I see but a first class tradesman I knew thumbing a lift on the side of the road..
This guy was a talented man with gifted hands and could be earning a fortune had he so desired. Not a word about work though,he preferred to draw the dole and was the greatest living expert on maximizing Social Welfare draw downs that I ever met.
Uniquely talented in this regard and comfortably unemployed.
Chewing the cud on the journey I began to seethe at his misuse of the Welfare code and pointedly asked whether he was applying hi undoubted talents in the workforce.
"It's like this Daithi, when I'm not fishing I'm mending my nets, and I,m not fishing just now."
Game, set and match NOT to me.
He hasn't landed a fish since nor won't.
