Dunderry V TRIM .I.F.C.Quarter Final 24/09/2016

This eagerly anticipated match between intense local rivals was played before a large crowd in Athboy at 5.30 on a wet Saturday evening .There was torrential rain most of the day but it had ceased somewhat just before kickoff time.Such was the crowd that the extremely affable and courteous Athboy officials had to cordon off the training pitch behind the Kells end of the pitch to avoid destruction of it and sinking of vehicles. Many had to leave their cars outside the grounds .
Ttrm deservedly came into this match as favourites for a multiplicity of reasons, mainly because of our injury crisis and the stumbling onwards nature of our campaign to date. There was also the fact that you  don't know just how strong the other divisions are.Personally I  was not over confident and turned down a fifty Euro bet earlier in he day,Bigger fool me.
We lined out as follows-.
                                             Jennings

A.Newman                           Spongee                                  Dempsy --Peanut.

Red.                                     Swiss                                       Marty Garry

                     Dempsey Liamie                        Kenneally Paddy

S.Coogan                           Lukie Martin                           M.Kane

Bomber                              Simon Carty                           A.Watters

Subs used. C.HarteJordan Martyn,S,Maguire,D.Mahon.
Considering the rain spilled for the previous 24 hours the pitch held up well. But the ball was like a bar of soap and it was slippy enough.
Watters played as a sweeper for us and the Trim Manager, former Dunderry player Maurice Power, set his team  up likewise. There were two men only up front each side and the middle third of the pitch was choc a block with players. There was a plenitude of short  passing in the cramped middle as both teams bode their time to let a long ball into the first inside forward to get a few feet on his opponent. The conditions didn't suit this type of play and a good few passes went astray at vital moments. On balance we were more adroit at the passing but still scores were as scarce as hen's teeth. After 20 minutes there were I think   maybe just 5 points on the score board with feck all between the teams.
Inter County Referee Cormack Reilly did his job in full accord with the Eugene Magee school of abhorrence of even the threat of  physical contact or manliness and flashed a black card on one of the Trim players which tilted the game very much in our favour. In a game of ballet with skiddy ball ,completely without rancour ,he flashed yellow cards at will and wrote copious notes all over the place ,interrupting the flow of play completely.Against both sides I might add.I have no doubt that he operated fully under the rules in what I don't recognize as Gaelic Football at all and I played all my active life.
Is there any chance at all that Hurling only Referees can be appointed to football matches  in future, applying hurling rules only ,including the upcoming All Ireland replay ,in order to save the game of football before it is destroyed entirely.
Anyhow the turning point came when S,Coogan slipped his marker and with consummate skill and aplomb stuck the ball in the  net ten minutes before the half time whistle. We were never again to be headed.
No one stood out above the other in the first half  ,Coogan excepted, and we fought hard communally for every ball allover the pitch.Frankie Murphy was lording it at midfield and causing us problems but Liamie and Paddy did enough to keep us in contention.
We went in on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-3.
After the break Trim whittled away at our lead and I was worried when they hauled us back to a lead of a point. And then following a freakish goal from a longish ball by Bomber all changed. In truth the Trim rearguard was susceptible to quick high ball.Bomber is a big lad and hard to handle and had the measure of his opponent all of the time and the handling of their goalie was somewhat suspect.
Buoyed by the change of fortune we forged ahead and Trim panicked.Where heretofore we were hitting wides our confidence soared and the points started to go over.Passes that were previously going astray started to find their mark and we grew in stature.
The converse happened with Trim.
You write Dunderry off at your peril and we won pulling up.
Scorers .Cougar 1-6 (5 frees),Bomber 1-1.Carty 0-1.Harte 0-1.
It is a tribute to our defense that Trim were confined to 0-7 in an hour's football.
On a personal level Eoin Kelly is a son in law of mine, a decent man  and a Trim man through and through. No one has trained harder  nor breached the pain barrier more than he in their cause. He is in the last chance saloon age wise and this may well have been his last appearance ,even on the bench.
I  find it disrespectful to him not to have given him some playing time in this game and hope we in Dunderry would have the cop on to give any player we had in a similar position a run as a matter of respect.
Again this is none of my business but there  you are.
As far as I know it is Ballinabrackey in the semi and then the winners of Walterstown and Saint Colmcilles in the Final.
Don't rule us out.The football Gods are with us.
The half seven Mass in Dunderry on Saturday was for Molly,Tommy and Joe Mc Cormack and the deceased members of the Mc Cormack family,Dunderry fanatics all.I missed the Mass as I was unwell but Finn who got it tswears that a cheer went up halfway.
I don't doubt him.

Saturday 24th Sept 2016.Destiny DAY for Dunderry Gaels.

The only team that Dunderry Gaels have at Senior Level is the Hurling Team ,which tells its own story.
Both the Intermediate Footballers and the Intermediate Camogie Ladies are facing their destiny on Saturday.
The Ladies field at 1.00 p.m.in Trim  against Boardsmill in the Final.
History of sorts has already been made by this Team as we have never figured in an Intermediate Final before.
We did play at Senior level before ,I'd guess around 1989 when we got there by winning the Junior Championship, there being no Intermediate Championship at the time.
Boardsmill will be expecting to win this as all their home born players have transferred back from Trim to push their native Club over he line.
My perspective is different however. In 2009 an under 14 Dunderry Team beat Na Fianna in a B.final after a massive contest.Na Fianna have since established themselves as credible Senior contestants.
That Dunderry Team is the bedrock on which the present Team is built.Since then we have had a multitude of very successful underage teams and have produced many extremely talented players to augment those girls.
In fact it is a bit like Kilkenny hereabouts as on any given day you could meet several girls with All Ireland medals in the bag.
Although we are denied the services of Labaoise Martyn,Tara and Rebecca Scanlon and some others I would be surprised to say the least were we not to land the Laurels  in this vital Final.
G.T.Troy, supremo in recent years, and our own selectors Evelyn Griffin and Tracey Fitzsimons carry a huge responsibility in their hands on Saturday to produce the goods and I  have no doubt and a huge expectation they will select a winning team.
Oremus.
The Intermediate Football team play old adversaries Trim in Athboy at 5.30 I think in the quarter Finals of the Inter Football .
We have been unsuccessfully trying since 2005,when I was Manager,to return to Senior ranks.
Men of considerable experience ,some as inter county selectors, some who played that year ,have tried since to steer our footballers back to Senior and failed.
These included Tommy Dowd,Barry Callaghan ,Stephen O Rourke ,all of whom had a cut for a few years each and failed to advance .
In fact Sean Kelly had a cut at keeping us up prior to 2005 but threw his hat at it,so all of the guys who took the job on since 2005 have had the benefit of his considerable coaching nous.
This would include present Manager Kevin Dowd who recently managed the Hurlers back to Senior status  and is trying for a double of sorts.Together with his backroom team of Mickey Molloy ,who was a neat wing back in his day,Lee Mulligan ,whose playing career was cut short by injury and fellow Dub.Paudie Brady .And of course former inspirational colossus Phil Fay,we have just about stumbled through from match to match.
Our cause hasn't been helped by the career ending injury to our Finn and the recent breakage ,as far as I know ,to Conor O Sheas ankle. Both these guys made huge contributions to getting us here in the first place.I don't know whether the injury Lukie Martyn got with the Meath Hurlers has fully mended.
I do know that there is always very little between Trim and ourselves in recent years.
I also have observed that the form of out two County men,Simon Carty and Paddy Kenneally is not of the standard I would expect from County men,and suspect that their confidence has been adversely affected by the lack of match practise the got with Meath .
However the few matches they got with Dunderry lately has brought noticeable improvement and this will need to be ratcheted  up considerably if we are to win on Saturday.
Of course two men do not a team make and the ordinary less heralded club players who slog it out for the club all year around cannot be forgotten and it is to these we look for inspiration in the main.
Here's hoping.
Of course were things right there would be a double header of both matches at the one venue on Saturday.

Bruton's evidence on Jobstown incident telling.

If ever there was a location where Labour ,with it's policies supposedly designed to cater for the working classes and the less fortunate in Society ,ought thrive ,it is Jobstown in Tallaght.
The fact that the former Leader of the Labour Party and former Tanaiste is giving evidence with a   view to securing  a criminal conviction against a local youth for events surrounding a demonstration  in protest against the Policies of the Government of which she lead as second in command is indicative of the massive gulf that existed between her and her fellow T.D.,and Senators and the type of people she claimed to represent.
I have long been of the view that the Labour Party has long since been hijacked  by a   self styled elitist intelligentsia ,who pay only lip service to real Labour ideals ,but self servingly use it to advance the Liberal agenda they so dearly love and adore.
They have been to the fore in advancing the notion that there is no difference in the marriage of a man to a woman and the situation where two persons of the same gender share sexual and other propensities, when there clearly is .
Likewise their eyes are bulging to attain a situation where the killing of the defenceless unborn becomes normal practise amongst all classes .One suspects that this would be more used amongst the academic classes who dictate policy to the working drones, as they are much cleverer than ordinary beings and bridle at the very thought that a God could exist who might be superior to themselves and the taking of life is therefor of no consequence.
The electorate wised up to this nonsense and decimated the Labour Party in the last election bringing its vote down to near the level of support it has amongst those pushing its Liberal Agenda ,but has not reached that nadir yet due to the traditional support of a declining core of true Labour supporters who haven't yet abandoned ship.
Id say that these few remaining supporters are watching avidly the evidence being given by Joan in the Court case against the youth involved involved and as the evidence she offers demonstrates the vast gulf in experience between herself and the academic and superior classes she habituates and that of ordinary decent working class and put upon people that She certainly does not represent.

A hop,A skip and a Jump.

Like the corncrake, this expression of childish exhuberance is rarely witnessed these days.In my youth were your auld fella to give you six pence pocket money of a Sunday instead of the usual thruppence you would be hoppin, skippin and jumpin for yonks. It was a common enough sight then, not so much now.
I was therefor absolutely delighted to see a number of small grandchildren of ours hopping etc.,to their hearts content last Sunday for no particular reason other than pure bliss.

The American Presidential Race.

Aside from the shape of her genitals ,which she pushes at every opportunity ,there is nothing else to recommend Hillary Clinton. The attitude of all of the Irish Media.which is female dominated and is in general that of an uncritical cheerleader for Hillary ,may be summed up by a spake from a female journalist, who is a part of the feminist rent a panellist coterie, who described Trump as" a misogynist pig."
Imagine the politically correct furore that would burst out were any man to describe Saint Hillary as a man hating sow.
Trump has grafted into the working class and non privileged and unrepresented  white populace who are despised by the College educated and privileged professional  classes who live longer, get better health treatment and really don't give a fiddlers fuck about their less fortunate compatriots as they have proved time and time again.
My guess is that ,unless he is assassinated,he will win.
Were I voting I would have regard to whose hands are more covered in blood than the other.Obama and Clinton have had their hands on the levers of power for yonks.Just how many deaths they have sanctioned and are responsible for is any one's guess.
Trump has no blood on his hands.Fact.

President Higgins doesn't walk the walk.

I listened to the Sean O Rourke Show during the week. There exists a gushing Blueshirt Seanad nominee  Seanator called Mary Louise O Donnell.I say gushing because she is capable of spouting soliloquy of many minutes duration without pausing for breath at all and joining the breathless oral thrusts  by copious usage of the conjunction "And.."
During the pro gramme she described in her usual breathless soliloquy the splendour of Aras AN UACHTARAN,the Vice Regal Lodge from the times of Empire in all its splendid glory, pausing now and again to say it was not opulent.
Of course this is arrant nonsense .It is opulence at its height and to deny it is foolish no matter how gushing you happen to be.
Now I see that The President is yet again interfering in political matters which do not fall within his remit.Had he wished to influence Government Policy as a real legislator he should have run yet again for the Dail on his Labour ticket.Perhaps he had the foresight to realize that the electorate had had enough of his Party's betrayal of working people's needs and he would be walking the plank into political obscurity ,like most of his colleagues, come the next election.
In any event he made the astute decision to continue to live high on the taxpayer hog in considerable opulence in the Aras ,whist sniping all the time from the sidelines at measures that he deems to be in amicable to the downtrodden..
All this verbal garbage from the President ,while he continues to be waited on hand and foot like the French Royalty prior to the Revolution sticks in my craw.
Methinks he should lead by example and live all of the time the more modest lifestyle of  Hermit and apply the massive amounts of money he receives to the use of those he keeps blathering about.
Then he would have my respect.

Muskateers Carmel and Leo 42 years married.

The Friday Rosary  we started all those years ago continues.Liam has just finished painting the Church .It is resplendent.Because it was closed as a result these last few weeks we pray on the bench Flanagan's side of the Church at 6.00 p.m. on Fridays. We get some strange looks.
Carmel and Liam were 42 years married last Friday. She was chuffed. She said Leo was resting and couldn't make it.I was too polite to inquire whether he was resting after exerting himself in honour of the day or whether he was gathering strength to later savour the occasion.
From the fervour of her prayer I would say the latter.
I will have to stop this. Not very Holy I must say.
Oremus.

Bittersweet weekend in Dunderry.

Alan Brady's wake in the Funeral Home in Johnstown attracted massive crowds on Friday evening. As did his burial in Dunderry graveyard on Saturday morning.Although I was unable to attend his funeral Mass in Navan on Saturday I expect that it too was overflowing. For such a private man he has some send off.
Later on Saturday I attended the inter camogie semi final between O Mahony's and Boardsmill because my daughter Mags is captain and full back of O Mahonys.Floss Fay's daughter ,another Dunderrian ,also plays midfield.Boardsmill won handily and they are on a roll as their Junior Team also won the Junior Final earlier in the day.Seemingly all the former Trim players who are natives of Boardsmill have transferred home and they are gunning for success.
I was happy with the performance of both ladies and Mags although approaching veteran status is well able for it.
Later my own Club Dunderry played Trim in the other Inter.Camogie Semi Final.I had seen ourselves playing Trim earlier in the year and we hockeyed them so I gave it a miss on the assumption that we would repeat the dose.I was wrong as the match went to extra time and we were lucky to pluck victory out in the end.
The final should be a classic .
In the afternoon three of our lads Conor Dempsey and Lukie Martyn both of whom started and Aaron Feeney,a first cousin of Lukie .who was a sub., played with Meath against Mayo in the B UNDER 21 Hurling Final in Thurles and won .Well done all.
A huge Dunderry contingent went to Thurles the second time in a row,as many also went there to cheer on Timber Leavy's son in the B Minor All Ireland last Saturday .Unfortunately they lost
It is great to see so many from Dunderry going regularly to the Home of Hurling.
It seems that we gave A Walk over to St.Michael's in the adult B League later in the day.I don't know whether the clash with the Thurles match had anything to do with this, but it is a sad fact that this is not the first time that our second team failed to field this year.
For many years we fielded three adult football teams and two adult hurling teams .
We are now getting it hard to field two only football teams and have only one hurling team. This is compounded by our failure to field either a Minor football or Hurling Team for the first time in decades.
Clearly the Club structures need to be examined to identify the reasons for this unsatisfactory state of affairs.
My own assessment is that the Juvenile Club for a number of years has failed abysmally in its primary function of spreading and inculcating club loyalty and the promotion of the games within its own sphere and has failed to ensure a flow of youngsters into the Club proper.
I know that great work is being done at the younger age groups and that we have a small number of promising lads between 16 and 21 years but there is a lacuna in this age group as far as I can see.
My personal view is that the separate existence of the Juvenile section is not a good thing and that the Adult club ought fully subsume it now..In brief two GAA Clubs within the one Parish is not on and is failing to work properly.
Later on Saturday evening a fund raiser was held in Horan's to replenish the funds of the Lourdes Fund, which is used to help fund ill people to go to Lourdes.
As a former recipient of help from this source we supported this function as best we could ,as did a sizable and generous crowd from the Parish. This fund was established I think around the time of Peter Smith's death  and its informal directors are Tommy Farrelly,Gus Martin,Deirdre Mc Cormack,Eileen Bruton and Catherine Foley.
A good night was had all round and I would guess a fair few bob raised.
On Sunday morning I went to the A league match against Bective in our pitch. There was a dreadful cross wind which made good football difficult ...Our Finn ,Lukie Martyn...injured in the U21 Hurling,Conor Dempsey  and a number of other injured people were not available to start.
Basically it was a dreadful match with scores at a premium and it wasn't until the last quarter that it opened up.Bective kept trying to walk the ball into the goal but our guys had the experience and cuteness to capitalize, turn over the ball and counter attack to advantage.
We won by 3---4 to 0--7 as far as I can remember and reached our first target of promotion back to Div.2 Football, which is where we must be to make progress in years to come.
And the under 10 hurlers won the shield in a hurling blitz in Dunganny and our Padraigh played ,Proud as punch is mise.
And to cap the sweetness our grand daughter Aisling Mc Donagh dropped me in a burger from Supermacs ,cooked by herself  , on her last day of this job before she returns to Maynooth on Monday I think.
She was not available for the Trim match on SATURDAY because she had to work unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it.
As if we didn't have enough injuries, word has just filtered through that Conor O  SHEA broke his ankle in the match against Bective.
God help us all.

Death of Alan Brady ,native of Black Road,Robinstown,Navan.

Alan 's mother and mine, both called Peggy ,were first cousins, their mothers, both  Mallons, having been sisters.
Alan was reared on the Black Road in Robinstown and had a garage there until recently when he retired due to a turn he suffered while golfing. As far as I knew he recovered well from the turn but retired anyway being of the age ...66 I believe.
I had no idea he wasn't well and his death came as a complete shock to all here.
It is true for Alan and the wider Brady family that life threw many hurtful and sad hurdles before them but they kept on going regardless and put a brave face on it.
I know that he was a keen golfer in Royal Tara as we share a number of mutual friends but as as far as I can see he was an intensely private person generally.
He lived in Navan and is reposing at the Chapel of Rest in Old Johnstown from 5.00 to 9.00 p.m.today Friday 9/9/2016 with Funeral Mass tomorrow in St.Mary's Church ,Navan at 10.00 a.m.and burial afterward in Dunderry Cemetery.
To his surviving wife Margaret ,his children Lisa and David, his brother James,a regular fixture around Dunderry ,his sisters Anne,Nuala, and Rosaleen, other relatives and friends we offer our sincerest sympathies.
Ar Dheis De go raibh a hAnam Dilis.

A boy of few words.

"Did you talk to Charlie today"."Nooo.""And did you talk to Tom and Blath today""Noo but thay talked to me".

Something stinks to High Heaven re Apple appeal by Government.

I am so outraged by the Government's refusal to abide by the EU Ruling that 13 billion plus interest is due to our State and therefor us that I am nearly speechless.
Let us recap for a minute. The political pygmies who misrule us had no difficulty sticking us with a debt of 64 billion to bail out the German and French Banks and the Euro and made no appeal whatsoever bur rolled over like puppy dogs to put us in the mire and reintroduce homelessness ,child poverty ,suicide and forced an entire generation to emigrate.
Having conspired to poke one of our eyes out with a stick and half blinded us they are now completing the job by rejecting a refund of 19 billion due to us by Apple.
I have many times compared the main political parties to Oliver Cromwell in their contempt of the populace and I make no apology for this.
Compared to Dev. who in the 1930's refused  to hand over the Land Commission annuities to the Brits they are pygmy shoneens ,who have gotten so used to persecuting us that it is routine at this stage.
Not only are our so called leaders rejecting billions legitimately due to us but the Revenue, with Government approval are refusing to accept payment of taxes due if made by Cheque.
Such arrogance just sucks and it amazes me that frustrated taxpayers don't band together and just refuse outright to pay any more taxes until this arrogance is checked.
Probably the reason is that this and previous Governments have handed such draconian powers to Revenue that nearly everybody lives in total fear of them.
As things stand Revenue can go into your bank account and grab whatever they decide is owed without any judicial over sight ,in the process more often than not preferring themselves to your mortgage holder and putting you on the side of the road.Likewise they can invalidate your insurance and health insurance by emptying out your account and leaving nothing to pay your premiums.
Also without judicial over sight they can send a Revenue Sheriff to sequester all your assets.
All this draconian legislation has been put on the books by all the political partied by vote in the Oireachtas in Bills signed by successive Presidents who really don't give a fiddlers fuck about ye when all is said and done.
Cromwell himself didn't have such wide ranging powers, hanging drawing and quartering apart.Probably some  squirt is working on its reintroduction.
And one thing puzzles me about these Revenue Rulings over APPLE's LIABILITY TO CORPORATION TAX and it is this.
Revenue are all the time vigilant to close off loopholes the exploitation of which result in significant Revenue loss. You b can be sure for example that were a loophole to emerge that would result in a few millions loss of PAYE in a year that emergency legislation would be passed to close the loophole off.
Now the question I have is why did it take from 1991 to recently to close off this loophole where billions were left untouched by taxation.
And remember that the EU judgment just references tax due for ten years back from the start of the investigation which I think was initiated just two tears ago.How much are we talking about were we to go back to 1991.And how much in IDA Grants and other State aid.
Now Apples 37 year marriage to the Irish people......I DID NOT TAKE VOWS FOR ONE........ survived many political groupings. That is why the leaders of the political groupings .....he has many political wives male mostly from his marriage ,are bending over backwards to accommodate Mr Cooke .
They have sold us out again, hook, line and sinker.
The more skittish wives are of course hiding behind the skirts of the Revenue Commissioners and talk in cliches about red herrings and Trojan horses and whatever you are having yourself and naturally talk of further reports and investigations to hide their disgraceful disregard of the more needy and put upon citizens still on their knees.

Cooke and Government joined at hip.

As long suspected, the political strings in this Country are being pulled by tecknophopes who dictate to the political pygmies on all sides of the spectrum  not only the the appropriate moral approach to homosexuality i.e.to elevate it to a status above heterosexuality and sneer at those who think this is pure bunkum and to link the giant technological presence with a prevailing gay culture they inculcate, but also to dictate fiscal policy to the State and ensure that they pay as little tax as possible..
Let us put a few notions to the spotlight.
1.The Revenue Commissioners are independent only insofar as individual cases are concerned.Overall taxation policy is decided by the Government of the day .
I venture the opinion that even the dogs in the street knew and know that it is Government policy not to cross these mammoth super giants in any way for fear they will pull out of the country.
I am not suggesting that the Revenue persons who made the decisions that  permitted Apple to pay effectively no tax worth talking about was unduly influenced by the necessity to wear the Green jersey and have no doubt that the decisions were proper and in accordance with the law.
What I am saying is that the legislators who passed these laws are fully responsible for this scandal.
We should not forget that the Taoiseach in 1988 before ,the time of the first Revenue ruling  was taking handouts from his buddies .I am not suggesting that any of these Super Companies made any donations.
2.The Revenue Commissioners are not infallible.I remember Commissioner Quigley apologizing for Revenue mistakes decades ago... the Dirt scandal I think.
3.It would be interesting to ascertain if for example any senior Revenue Officials destroyed any documentation before their departure from office in recent decades and if so why.
4.The hundreds of thousands of persons registered with Revenue will be gobsmacked at the determination of the Government to throw back billions of Euros at APPLE ,while simultaneously the Revenue are horse whipping small businesses for little money and ,in my view ,contributing to many suicides, homelessness  and forced emigration.
THE FULL RANGE OF THE DRACONIAN POWERS THEY HAVE ARE BEING EXERCISED DAILY ,BUT THE POLITICOS TURN A BLIND EYE. and give more by the week.
Not only that but such politicians a Timmy Dooley wants the Revenue to take over all aspects of administration. His mantra for every emergency is to refer it to the Revenue.including the ALLEGED OLYMPIC TICKET AFFAIR,another item where the Pygmy politicians and drooling feminist journalists have behaved disgracefully.
5.Cooke the CEO of APPLE did his bit for the Government in the so called homosexual equalization campaign  and his like minded minions who populate cyberspace to a degree way in excess of their population created a genuine atmosphere of fear in those who legitimately opposed this bunkum .
The same population,it seems to m have been drafted in to again put logic on its head and refund billions of taxes legitimately due by  Apple.
These cosseted employees of the cyber space greed corporations will flood all public fora  with rhetorical nonsense in order to preserve their own greed filled status at the expense of everybody else.
Yet again the greedy will do their best to make the needy pay for their comforts and the pygmy politicians will play along.
And finally the politicians canot have it every way. They have blindly and with malice aforethought ceded sovereignty to the Eu at every hands turn,to the extent even of comically rerunning referrenda when they got the wrong result for them.hAVING GOT THEIR WAY ,NONE MORE RABIDLY THAN fINE Gael ,they cannot,if they have a shred of sense call foul if the mouth they they fed into bites the hand from them.
PS.Since I penned this I have listened to a nauseating interview with Cooke conducted by RTE in which Cooke considers his relationship with the Irish State as akin to a marriage and it has emerged that the Taoiseach of this Nation met Cooke the night before the EU Ruling was released.Clearly they are in Cookes opinion joined more intimately than at the hip.
You couldn't make this stuff up.
And by the way I fully expect the homosexual community on all sides of the political and journalistic communities  to fully back the man ..Cooke... who pushed their case in the recent referrendum in this matter.

Death of Mark Connneely,Curraghtown,Navan.

Living,as I do. opposite the Church in Dunderry,I get to attend and see an awful lot of funerals.Being the age that I am and respecting totally the many friends and neighbours that I have made and know ,attending funerals has become increasingly frequent for me the older I get.
I can say with certainty that I have never attended a happy funeral.Yes I have been to funerals where such was the suffering endured by the deceased that I was relieved that the person had died, but there was always regret at the passing of the deceased.
Death is no respecter of age nor status and it comes in many forms and for many reasons.
No matter what the age or circumstance there is no convenient time to die.
This little Parish we live in has had more than its fair share of tragedy in recent decades.
People have died well before their time by their own hand betimes ,by freak accident ,by hit and run and so forth.
It is desperate enough when people die after a decent life span but atrocious and difficult to accept even for the best of Catholics a situation where a child predeceases his or her parents.
By far the saddest funeral I have attended was that of Mark Conneely .
Mark Connealley's death was so bizarre and inexplicable that I cannot for the life of me make sense of it.
Here was a young guy,in his late twenties, with an expectation of a decent future ,as decent a guy as you could get ,going about his legitimate business on a quiet road at dusk ,when a stray cow appears from nowhere and he ends up dead as a consequence.A local nurse was first on the scene.
What bizarre forces combined to place the cow and the man on his motor bike in such a fatal embrace on a public road at precisely the wrong time for him.
It defies explanation and severely challenges my Faith I  must say.
Now something similar happened me maybe 30 years ago.But I  survived.I wish he too had.But no.
His parents attend Mass every Sunday in Dunderry. Both of them and his three brothers were devastated.
I don't know how they got through the day and are coping.
The Village was thronged for the funeral. No one knew what to say.All felt awful for the bereaved.
I saw several people in attendance who to lost children bleed salt tears in memory of their own  and in empathy with the family.
Prayer and time may heal.I don't know.
May the Lord Jesus grant solace to the family and those who love him.

Shane Ross a disaster,Hickey pesumed innocent.

This guy must have a visceral hatred of Irish people of all ages.Firstly he has no regard for the damaged unborn and wants to see them treated as less worthy than  the undamaged unborn and less worthy than those lucky enough to have been allowed to enter this world..Why else would he want to see the repeal of the 8th amendment.
At the other end of the scale his loud mouth buffoonery ,presumption of guilt of Irish citizens while abroad and visit to Brazil to chastise a man of international repute must have been great encouragement to the Brazilian Police in humiliating an innocent Irishman of advanced years,a man still presumed Innocent in the eyes of the law,who was frogmarched from his hotel at 6.00am in cuffs for all the world to see.
Yep Ross is the sort of guy that any Irish person abroad can have confidence to protect them.Not.
Something about these ticket scalping charges smell to high Heaven. From what I see the stadia are invariably empty  of paying customers,You couldn't give the tickets away much less sell them at an inflated price.
And just how the Brazilian police have the time to persecute visitors who honoured their country by choosing Rio for the games in the first place ,given the huge social disparity and civil unrest that is prevalent there is amazing.
I don't get it.

Sean Byrne.Blanchardstown is dead.

When I recently visited Mulhuddard Cemetery for the Blessing of the graves I met Liam Byrne a former next door neighbour from Tolka View and a nephew of the aforesaid Sean and enquired after his health.Liam informed me that Sean had recently gone into a nursing home and at the venerable age of 95 years was still striking terror into the bookies of Blanchardstown with his forays into the horse betting markets.Nothing new there.
Well I got a message last Tuesday evening that Sean had died in his sleep and that his funeral Mass would be the next morning at 10.00 a.m. in Blanchardstown Church .I made it but only just having found a parking place difficult to find .I must say that I find the profiteering from funeral attendees by whoever is getting the parking money is a vile practise and condemn it outright.Seemingly nothing is sacred around Blanch. Church any more.
Anyway when I got to the Church it was filled to capacity and I  couldn't get in so I sat on  a ledge outside the back door. The fullness of the Church is testimony in itself to the esteem in which Sean is held around Blanch .and further afield.
I think that Sean was the oldest true Blanchie alive at the time of his death. He was steeped in Blanch .lore and his pedigree is truly impressive.
His granny was an O Driscoll whose family farmed at market gardening in what was later to become the Phoenix Park Racecourse, which they had to abandon to make way for the racecourse.
His mother was Annie Doyle who founded Doyles Shop at the junction of Main Street with Church Avenue ,which thousands of Blanchies will remember with fondness and which kept hundreds of families supplied with food and other life necessities on tick for generations .
Sean and his siblings were born into a house which stood where Tim Ryan's Garage now stands ,later moved down to Duckie O Brien's Blanchardstown Mills at the end of Mill Lane and thence to the top of Tolka View ,where they lived until 1958 when they moved to the house in Main Street ,where he lived at the time of his death.
It strikes me that his people lived through the Famine of 1845 to 1847 and all the crop failures of that damnable  Century.Perhaps the market gardening was the secret of their survival.
Maybe a half century ago I used inspect the headstones at Cavein graveyard near Dunsink and nearly cry at the huge numbers of the same families buried there who died from the hunger in that period.
Sean's siblings were ;-
Maureen ,who ran Doyles shop.
Una   Mrs FAGAN ...who live beside Sean on Main Street.
Patty   Mrs Carr who lived on the graveyard Road from Mulhuddart village.
Dessie ,who lived next door to us in Tolka View.
Benny ,who lived opposite the Wren's Nest in the Strawberry Beds and Carmel who lived with Sean in Main Street.
I grew up in Blanch.Nine kids were reared in our House in Tolka View.Ten,I think , were reared in Byrnes next door,4 Fagans were reared  nearby on the Main Street and 5 Mulhuddard Carrs spent most of their childhood around our neighbourhood.A further 5 Mac Donalds lived in Tolka View.
This was our core play group and we played together, fought with each other ,palled around with each other, some more than others, chased women with each other.learned to smoke and drink with each other ,and although never living in each others pockets kept up healthy and respectful relationships with each other.
Joe Mullery .a next door neighbour to Sean's on Main Street, was plumb in the centre of our area and spent most of his working life in Africa..His house was empty for months on end each year.
After he retired he returned home and I got to know him fairly well.
He often marvelled at the fact that his house was never broken into nor damaged by any of the kids during all those years.
This ,of course is down to the values inculcated in us by our parents and Sean and his family ,who were made of the right stuff.I like to think that we too are similarly constituted.
Now I was born in1951 and can remember Sean having  BIG SHED on Tolka View within which I never stood but in which was manufactured go carts which we could never equal and greatly envied.
Sean was the master of this shed as long as they owned it and it was a hive of manufacturing activity for the Byrne,Carr and Fagan clan and gave them mechanical superiority over us and the Mc Donalds.
Sean never gloated but was content with the output of his factory of endeavour.
I must say that I never heard Sean Byrne say a bad word to any of us kids nor our parents in all my years living there.
The space where the shed rested was sold to Martin Henry I think and he was just as nice as Sean Byrne, lucky for us kids.
In those innocent times the Gardai used try and summons us kids for kicking football on the lane outside our house and one neighbour in particular used keep any footballs which crossed into their premises. These were not nice people by any stretch of the imagination and I must say that the Gardai were worse for doing what they did.
Neither Sean nor Dessie nor any of the Byrnes were like this and they like our own parents had a good tolerance of all us kids and our lives were the finest given the times that were in it.
Dessie lived next door to us with his wife Betty and he was a hardworking plumber with one of the Hospitals I  think. He was a non smoker and a non drinker and a great man with the kids, his only leisure I  remember being playing music with the Blanchardstown Brass and Reid Band.
It was rumoured that he used help his wife bathe the kids every Saturday night and my mother used tease our Dad on account of this when he would return from the Pub every Saturday night full of the cheer of that week's nickser. He wasn't for turning and didn't.
Dessie always travelled on a Honda 50 with a superb toolbox built into the back.It was brought inside every night I  think.
Our family was GAA inclined and while PAT and Kevin CARR  and Liam and Desmond Byrne played a bit of GAELIC Football with Brigids the Fagans and the other Carrs were more soccer inclined.
Of course we used leather the shite out of each other at casual soccer in Cleary's field behind the Greyhound and at a patch of ground in front of Duckie O Brien's in Mill Lane.
Sean always kept Jack Russell terriers for hunting and was big into fishing and we all had a go at these pursuits.I m fairly sure he worked d in a fishing tackle and  supply store  at Mary's Abbey for many years so the aids to fishing and hunting were readily available.
Sean fished trout from the Tolka like us all,Pepper's pool at the bottom of Moy Mel and a willow tree at the bottom of our garden being fruitful spots for fish.
It is hard to believe now but I remember shoals of trout feeding at the bridge that spanned the Tolka at the entrance to the Hospital from Mill Lane.
The Byrnes were well into Blanch Brass and Reid Band ,Dessie being a stalwart and Sean---Foxy Fagan and maybe Bernard too being enthusiastic members.Don't think that Sean was a member but I  may be wrong.
Certainly Sean and Rory Mooney and many others of that circle used go off the sweets for Lent and save them up as prizes  for  the Grand National Races run at Easter on the impromptu racecourse erected by us all  each year in the field behind Byrnes and Fagans and all those houses. There used even be water jumps and the competition was ferocious.
Sean ,Carmel and Little Mo,their great friend were big into the Concerts staged in Brigid's Old School in the sixties and I well remember Brendan Hilliard,no chicken either and still to the good, singing there and a phrase from a homemade ditty "We have a fine doctor (Cooney) and Chemist (Hughes) here too,to make up the pills and the medicines too "being belted out by Carmel and Little Mo in the Hall to rave applause.
Sean didn't marry and it was rumoured that there was no shortage of admirers and in truth the Fagans,Dessie Byrnes and the Carrs were as much his kids as their parents.
He did take a drink but never to excess as far as I recall.
It is a tribute to him that all his nephews, nieces and the whole of Old Blanch was at his funeral.
I met Foxy,Tony.Bernard and Pau,er Fagan and the latter's fragrant wife Anne ,who I hadn't seen in decades and Pat,Johnnie ,Jem .Brendan Kevin  and Mary Carr and Betty,Jem's wife who hasn't changed a bit in 40 years,She confirmed to me that their son returned recently from Singapore to christen his child in Berkely Road Church where herself and Jem were married.
Mary is the most reluctant culchie I  ever met.
And I  met Mary,Dolores,Liam ,Dermot  and Brenda Byrne but missed the rest in the crush and I met PAT , BARRY and Finnoula mc Donald too.Pat was the last man to see my father alive and I hadn't seen BARRY in 40 years.
I also bumbed into Patrick o Reilly  ,former landlord of my brother Robert's offices and a man who was the essence of decency to him during his long illness.I won't forget.
It must have been hard on Sean Byrne,Old Sean's nephew .who is in Australia and is a friend of mine to miss this funeral and we cannot forget either Lizzie Byrne nor my brother Robert who too knew Sean well but were called ashore well before their time.
Sean was a nice guy,a fine neighbour full of good humour and brimming with decency.

The cure of Bleeding.

Near enough 20 years ago an uncle of mine handed me down a prayer from the time of Jesus directed to Jesus that He might stop bleeding in a person when all else fails.Thankfully I have said the prayer many times since on request from the person suffering or a concerned friend or relative and it has always been answered save once in a situation where a person had a leg sliced off.
I am a Believer but the person suffering doesn't have to be in my experience.
I do not seek any remuneration of any kind for asking Jesus to work these miracles ,just a  Prayer for my intentions if possible and by God I need plenty of Prayer.
I know that the P/atheists who trool the internet will sneer at this information but such is life and death.
Anyone seeking help should contact me at 085 8452144 giving the name of the sufferer, their location and what ails them.
I have confined this information to a tight circle of friends so far but seeing as life is so short am sharing it with a wider circle .
I am the soul of discretion.

That's dedication for you.

Last weekend a significant milestone was reached in Dunderry. After 40 years Jodie Weldon retired from washing mending ,drying and folding the adult team jerseys for Dunderry GAA Club.Jodies father played with the 1934 Junior Hurling Team that won the Championship for Dunderry, her husband Tommy and his brothers .families  and her sons played with the Club.My uncle Jimmy and my mother's first cousin Sean Mallon are tied up with Jodie's people and I am proud  of this.
Very often in her earlier years on this entirely voluntary job she used the needle and thread as often as not to effect running repairs in the jerseys. She maintains that in latter years the materials used are more robust and tears are less frequent. My personal opinion is that the present day players are not as ,shall we say ,as competitive as some of those I remember in the past who would ate you without salt.
As one who delivered jerseys to her for the Jodie treatment in the past and who collected them after wards I  can vouch for the fact that she too would ate you without salt if any were missing and she would be relentless in pursuit of the missing item.
I am certain that because of her dedicated application to the job on hand that the Club never went into the red nor had to reschedule repayments  on anything to do with jersies nor their replacement.
She is the epitome of what the backbone of the GAA is.
We wish her well in retirement.

Paddy Keeley,Sage od Dunderry,is dead.

Paddy died on 25th July 2016 in Navan Hospital where he had been for a short while.I understand he was 93 years old.Predeceased by his wife Dillie, son Pat and grandson Andrew he is survived by his children Kathleen,Dick,Mary,Mark,John,Sarah,Joan,Phyl,Angie,Jenn and Lucy ,sisters ,grandchildren ,great grand children ans a wide host of in laws ans friends and good neighbours.
For a man of his generation and background Paddy was very well educated ,an achievement down to his mother ,who was widowed at a young age, and he was the possessor of a massive store of historical ,geographic and  folk knowledge of Dunderry Parish and indeed further afield.
As  a matter of historical fact thr father of my good friend Liam Dalton worked on their land for a number of years after Paddy's father died .
Luckily for us and future generations he ,along with his son Johnny and the historical Society recorded much  information in a number of publications.including a historical account of Dunderry GAA Club, which I am proud to say I commissioned from the crew and which was published after exhaustive research mainly by Johnny.
Purely from memory I am fairly sure he met the last native Irish speaker from the Parish long  before our  Irish speakers neighbours people landed from Galway in Lambay in 1935,met people who survived the famine of 1845 to 1847 and knew a man whose folk memory went back over 200 years from the time they conversed.I will have to look these things up again.
His remains are reposing in his residence today Tuesday from 6.00 p.m to 9.00 p.m.
Tomorrow they will be reposing there from 3.00 p.m until they leave to reach Dunderry Church at 7.00p.m.
Funeral Mass is Thursday at Noon with burial after wards in Dunderry Cemetery.
