More hammer blows to Parish.

The ineptitude of politicians of all hues,in particularly the present crew, who have presided over unprecedented levels of emigration, has hit home once again with the recent emigration of Celine and Shane O Neill to Canada and Australia respectively. This shameful economic emigration of half of a family so immersed in community and GAA affairs strike once again at the very core of decency and decent family values in the Parish and is being replicated all over Ireland.
The Government and the E.U. have implemented policies of austerity that depend on such forced departures to succeed.
Hypocital hand wringing by the Government parties and the pet journalists and commentators who pollute our electronic and paper media about the duplicity of a handful of Anglo Irish Bank executives ,who are supposed to have thwarted the combined expertise of our civil service, regulatory authorities ,Central Bank, the cream of our academic communities and whoever you are having yourself, does nothing to alleviate the deliberate and wilful destruction of Irish society by a totalitarian Government and European Union .
Already bent on eliminating the unborn through the blasphemy of abortion, the continuing torture of those left at home has the inevitable consequence of forcing those who can emigrate to go.Our Government are no more than facilitators for this betrayal of their own people. And use the Anglo relevations as an excuse to settle old scores and grab as much additional powers as they can for themselves.
The truth must out eventually and if the Government's attempts to avoid a vote on the abortion issue fails at least then we will be able to identify personally the faces of evil.

Tom Mc gurk talking through his hole

Tonight I listened to the Programme on RTE Radio hosted by a woman called Mc Carville. She is hard to listen to at the best of times.

Tom Mc Gurk,on whom the Aviva ad has to be based, had plenty to say on the banning of sports sponsorship by the drinks companies.

First of all he holds himself out to be an expert on the minutae of running GAA Clubs and providing decent facilities.I don’t know whether he ever was or is involved in running a GAA Club.

I severely doubt it.

If he were he would know that the recession generally has impacted so severely on ordinary clubs that they are barely hanging on by their fingertips.Ravaged by the emigration of their members,by massive youth unemployment ,by a Government cruelly extracting the last penny and more from a battered populace by the plundering of Lotto Funds originally designed for Sport but diverted in many instances to pay the wages of well paid medics and their medical friends ,they are barely subsisting.

While he may be of the view that togging out in the ditches is  be good enough for the GAA Paddies and that the sport of his rugby buddies and that of choice of most of the medics deserves better and even subsidises payment for professionals I can assure him that his condescending view of the proletariat will not find favour in this part of the country.

He hasn’t a clue what life is like outside the cushioned sidewalks of Dublin 4.Pubs in every town and village in the country are suppose to be thronged with youngsters falling around drunk every weekend.

Where e the feck is he talking about. Not where I live.Nobody has the price of a drink, old nor young. The pubs are on their knees and closing down by the new time.Sponsorship from rural pubs .You must be joking.I doubt thety have the wherewithal to pay the electric  bill.

He clearly lives on a different planet than I do and as most of rural Ireland does. And yes it is important that the employment the likes of Guinness gives here be kept here.

Mouthpieces like him and the medical profession will always attract huge salaries even at the expe nse of the poor.

On which subject  the neck of some of these medics never ceases r to amaze me.They have been educated at massive expense to the citizens ,very often emigrate to stuff their pockets with dosh and then  return here to lecture the populace on how stupid they ( the populace) are and how right they( the medics) are.

On the subject of drink they want to put the price of it beyond the reach of the poor. That’s right feck the poor. The medics  and their class will be well able to afford it and of course they will be far more responsible than the yobs beneath them for  whom the hold nothing but contempt.Certainly it works insofar as the fees they charge go,which are beyond the reach of many ordianary people and who many ordinary people don’t trust at all.

These people are so clever that they are self appointed gods and know far better than us mere mortals.

They would want to cop on and stop treating us with contempt.

Lots of them see nothing wrong with publishing the most horrific pictures to scarify kids in a smoking context ,but see nothing wrong with murdering the unborn and cry foul when the abortion lobby are presented with the image of an aborted human beings.

We are not fools and don’t deserve this type of condescending shit.

Mossie and Maisie and Flossie and Teasay

Flossie and Teasay (Teresa) are in their late sixties. They are now grannies and Mossie and Maisie, their parents, are in their nineties.Mossie is still active enough.he smokes his way through 20 fags a day and aside from an occassional bout of gout he is game enough. He still goes on the occassional batter.Maisie gave the fags up thirty years ago and always hated the drink. She is contrary since she gave up the fags  and bristles at the very thought of Mossie heading for the pub.She absolutely hates him slobbering around the place.
Mossie was a great provider when he was able and is still very tasty around the house. No better man to clean out a fire grate ,set the fire and leave a knacky bundle of kindling at the back door.
Recently Mossie went on the batter for three days. She was enraged and gave him hell. His murrin burned out on thr third day and he landed home well locked and slobbering.Age was again him and he said the storm was now over."Would you like a sandwich ?""Love one, roast beef with a touch of mustard please."
"Sit down there dear and relax.Anything else?""Yep I'd love a good footbath to soothe my feet.""Is that warm enough?""Grand."
As she finished pouring the contents of the basin over his head she bolted for the door and shouted over her shoulder "I'll be at me sisters Daisies if you want me."
He had five days of pure bliss before he relented.
And so it goes.Happy Father's Day.

The destruction of North Meath

Recently a good man of my acquaintance voluntarily drove a local sporting school team to a venue in North Meath for a contest. They won and he informed them he would treat them to a celebratory ice cream.God bless his innocence. The shop in Dromone had closed down. And a local informed him  so had the shops in Ballinlough and Kilallon.Surely there was a shop open in Kilskyre.Nope.Crossakiel yes.A shop and post office. And what about petrol and diesel.None between Oldcastle and Athboy. And if you went to Kells from Oldcastle the first place is Drumbarragh.
And people. The overwhelming majority from 20 to 30 have emigrated. No future .No services. No jobs.No hope.
Even at minor level Ballinlough can only supply two to a combination team.Five years ago they had a team of their own practically.
What Cromwell had started this Government is finishing.O yes the Government has indeed taken decisive action to expedite the desertion of the region. They intend to legally justify the murder of the unborn at the whim of the mother or pro choice medics .If they are not born they cannot pollute the place. And the Minister who cannot even keep the hospitals clean will keep an eye on things.
Yep austerity, an antagonistic government and implementation of over zealous policies by the organs of state egged on by a government who really don't give a fuck will achieve Cromwell's desire, the elimination of the Irish.,
Our Taoiseach is deliberately setting these policies. He is an Irishman who happens to be Taoiseach not an Irish Taoiseach.Explains his desire to denigrate the language too.
One thing that hasn't changed is the ability of the drug dealers to deliver. This service is thriving. These boys deliver.
How long before young wans drugged out of their heads with no future are slitting their wrists to prove to pro choice medics that they really must have an abortion as the child was conceived when they were off their heads with drugs. And the Olivias and Martinas and Justines and Vincents will support them too.
Yep pray for those who will get no chance,And for those being targeted in the name of austerity.

The magpie, the crow and the rabbit.

I thought I had seen it all. This evening I realised I hadn't.At 6.30 this evening I was driving from KIlbride to Dunderry. At Conlon's back gate I spied a magpie and a crow picking at an animal no more than the size of my fist.I assumed it was a roadkill.I was wrong .On getting nearer the birds flew away. And up gets a baby rabbit and scarpers away. This is the first time I witnessed two birds of different species combining to kill another animal.
I have often seen grey crows and magpies concurrently trying to pick the eyes from a prostrate lamb, but never saw them combining to kill a baby rabbit.
Deadly coalition.Bit like F,G. and Labour combining to allow the killing of the unborn at the suit of the mother.

IFC 01/06/2013.Dunderry 0-11.Carnaross 1-4

Played under the shadows of the Loughcrew Hills ,where Cromwell created such havoc just a few centuries ago ,the pitch in Millbrook was resplendent .From ferrying juvenile teams all over the county for two decades you get to know every nook and cranny in a County.I have always found it hard to find this pitch and the pitch of Moylough and for this reason was a little late.Parked at the back of the goal ,where I had a bird's eye view of proceedings.Just after I landed Ollie Murphy punched a goal.According to an astute reader of the game ,we were well in control up to that point. And the goal reduced our lead to a point.Ollie has a crocked knee it seems and wears sports tights to keep his joints in place.Despite these handicaps he is a class act and hard to handle. He won a penalty later in th game ,which Jennings parried and cleared.Had it been converted who knows whar would have happened, but from what I saw we have an edge over Carnaross, who were missing John L.Mc Gee on the day.
With Andy Coogan suspended the team that lined out for Dunderry was.

                                                Jennings

Callaghan( Darren)                 Kelleher                             Mc Cormack(David)

Newman (Gary)                      Stephens (Evan)                Clarke

                                Dempsey (Liam)             Farrell (Conor)

O Shea                                    Callaghan (David)                Dowd (Kevin )

Newman (Aaron)                   Kenneally (Paddy)               Coogan (Stephen)

Peadar Callaghan replaced an unhappy Dempsey mid way through the second half.
Of the Dunderry team I managed in 2005 nine of the starting line up played then.So we have found 6 in the intervening years. We went down that year and since then Carnaross,Ballinlough,Trim and KIlmainhamwood,Courtown.Ultans   and I think Oldcastle have followed suit. Unhappy times indeed for rural clubs.
My tape recorder gave up the ghost during the game so what I record here is from memory.
We played Aaron Newman as a third midfielder with a two man full forward line.Indeed it is my recollection that every score save a single poinrt scored by Farrell was by Coogan and Kenneally.
We came ,we saw and we conquered.Mission accomplished .The backs ,particularly the half backs ,did very well.To restrict the opposition to a goal and four points over an hours football is as much as you could expect.Midfield was fair and neither team dominated there. As already said the two man full forward line did the bulk of the scoring. And a winis a win is a win.And I do not wish to detract from the management nor the players.
From my perch above the action and in the company of two older and true blue Gaels we analysed the game and indeed the direction football is taking generally. The conclusion reached is that the confidence to playthe ball  with the foot has been coached out of players who take winning seriously. For whole tranches of the match there were safe and crabwise  hand interpassing movements which had an entertainment value equivalent to watching paint dry.For much of the second half upwards of 25 players were concentrated in a square between our twentyone and our fifty with only three of four players in  the Carnaross half of the field.
As another old to timer put it "this is not football as we know it".And it is not just Dunderry and Carnaross but all over at serious Club and Inter County level.Just look at the inability of Westmeath to hand pass the ball furter than their thirty yard line and the embarassing in anability to make any decent effort at a reasonable foot pass.
The game is being destroyed as a spectacle by the the relegation of the foot pass to history and the dominace of the fisted  and hand passes to painstakingly make ground. This stye of play is killing off the traditionsal skills of the game as the opportunity, for example ,a high catch is limited .O Shea made one that sticks in the memory.I can't remember another one. This is the whole point.Keep possession,Hand pass hand to hand

Camogie Promotion in Dunderryin May 2013.

Last Saturday at the request of my good friend Teresa Rattigan i moseyed up to the pitch to take in the atmosphere of the underage blitz being played out and which our Club were hosting. To those who are not in the know the Rattigans are the bedrock on which our Club is built. They sell over 400 Club Lotto tickets each and every week.Without them the pitch and dressing rooms would not be there.
Not that they boast about it.In the ego stakes they just don't figure. But to those that know the story they are simply the best.
Teresa herself has a daughter starting out as has Collette Rowan and Suzanne Kelly who has two.Great to see them managing teams .If the present daughters turn out to be as good as their mothers were we will be unbeatable in years to come.Theses ladies and their contemporaries won every competition open to them in Meath before they reached eighteen years except the Senior Championship ,a medal they subsequently won with  either  Trim or KIlmessan when the Club  temporarily folded due to lack of numbers. They were augmented by Francis Brady who hurled with distinction for the Club and who is doing such marvellous work for thye game of the Gaels in Scoil Mhuire in Trim. Her husband Anthony also walked the Camogie walk and continues to support the GAA club at all levels.Their daughter too yields the caman.how could she miss it.
Stella Keyes was in full flight too and we are so so grateful for the huge effort put into the camogie by herself ansd her husband Dave.
They are well backed up by Martina Loughran,Teresa Hayden and Miriam Mc Hale and a host of others whose names escapes me,much to my discredit.
The pitches were overflowing with children ranging in ages from about five to ten and parents to beat the band admiring and cheering on their adored offspring.
Teams from Athboy,KIlmessan and KIltale were present to  augment our own
and we had plenty despite the absence of the Robinstown contingent who were attending First Holy Communion on the day.Over 40 children have made their First Communion in the Parish and this augurs well for the future of the Clubs in the Parish.
With the infiltration of all of rural Ireland's schools with the well funded Rugby Union apostles and the attempts to popularise the the cultures of New Zealand and Ireland's Call at the expense of our native culture and games it is indeed laudable to see such effort and  organisation so well applied and supported.
Boyerstown ,which supplies so many players to our Camogie Team ,have a School Team  and a fairly successful one at that.
One hopes that Dunderry,KIlbride and Robinstown will take heart and follow in their example.
