Every Sunday Gerry and Rita Doherty drive Gerry's 92 year old mother down to 11.00 a.m.Mass in Dunderry ,ensconce her in the side isle and return to the main body of the Church for MASS themselves. She is,I would guess ,around 90 years and fully in possession of all her faculties.
She has outlived her late husband and one other son who died in England some years ago.Today her son Bill was prayed for in Mass.
I can remember him and his wife at times, coming on holiday to Gerry and Rita when they lived in Father Flood Park years ago and remember meeting him a number of times. He was a nice guy.
Well seemingly he went for a fairly routine operation in I think Blackpool where he lived with his wife and children about a week ago and died unexpectedly there last Wednesday.
Bill emigrated in the mid 1960's
.He previously worked in Leonards of Athboy Gate alongside Pat Leonard and Ted Murtagh selling clothes and footwear, a crew he can reunite with now within the pearly gates and recite with the Angels "Shine up your button with Brasso,it's only three halfpence a tin ,and if you can't get it on the Black Market you'll get it in Leonard's of Trim",
Afterwards he worked in Navan Carpets.
To his devastated mother, sister, brother ,wife ,children and grandchildren and all who held him dear, including Thomas,Bob,Rachel and especially his mother and Gerry and Rita we offer our sincere condolences.
Ar Dheis De go raibh a Annam Dilis.
And I hear that Johnny Gough ,a neighbour who knew Bill, went to the funeral in England,a fair journey for a 88 year old man.
