Death of Veronica Steele,of Beara ,Co.Cork.

Orla Mc Feeley of this Parish, who has been a leading light in the Tidy Towns and other Community initiatives and is well known around the Village had an aunt on her mother's side called Veronica Barron before she married a guy called Norman Steele and they had 4 children Susan,Jerry,Kate and Quinlan and 11 grandchildren.
She was a  lady of some note in the wider Beara  community, being a pioneer cheese maker of Milleens cheese and has also been variously described as a philosopher, leaper and humanist.
She  died on the 4th.January gone and is being cremated at the Island Crematorium ,Ringaskiddy at 12.30 tomorrow 9th Jan 2017.
Now I didn't know this lady but she succumbed to an illness new to me called Multiple System Athropy and she bravely bore this illness I m told.
Those who know Orla will recognize some at least of the qualities ascribed to her aunt and she has taken the long journey to Castletownbere to bid farewell to her aunt.
The Drumbeat offers its full sympathy to Orla and her extended family on their huge loss.
Being a Believer myself I don't know what the protocol is in this case but figure that the Catholic prayer "Ar Dheis De go raibh a hAnam "in no way diminishes her humanist beliefs and wish her accordingly.
